ajaxWrite – full featured free online word processor

April 1, 2006 by

I came across this nifty web-based online word processor called ajaxWrite which was built on the AJAX platform. It has the look, feel and functionality of the Microsoft Word, albeit not as complex. It runs through your browser without the need to install any other files.

During my University days; we used a web-based Microsoft Outlook to do our emailing, an interesting departure from our previous, primitive text based system. The web-based Outlook app looked and felt like its desktop counterpart except the short delay when it responded to a command. That was in late 90s.

Fast forward eight years, today we have more web based apps available that run like desktop apps. It’s only a matter of time when we have Photoshop or Dreamweaver clone done in AJAX.

This would definitely help toward the fight against software piracy and would also bring down software price altogether.

But before we reach that stage, Internet access has to be affordable and available to anyone, anywhere. ISP should strive to improve the quality of their service.

I hope the RM12.9 billion allocation in Ninth Malaysian Plan for ICT related programmes and projects will contribute to achieving these objectives and bridge the digital divide.
