Aiming to become a six figure blogger? How about a four figure blogger first?

May 3, 2006 by

People have been talking about earning a six figure income from blogging annually. One of the best inspirations for us, the ordinary bloggers is ProBlogger Darren Rowse who has been earning and writing about six figure income from blogging.

He jumped into the blogging bandwagon relatively earlier than most people when making money from blogging was still uncommon as it is today.

While earning a six figure income from blogging is not uncommon these days, it’s definitely not an easy target to achieve for many people. Setting a lower goal, say earning a four figure income is perhaps more attainable to many.

To this end, Ben at College Startup is writing a useful series of article describing how to become a 4-figure blogger. He explains why people would want to set a modest goal.

The number of people who have the time, resources, and knowledge to develop a five or six figure income from blogging is very small in relation to the number of people that can devote a few hours a week to tacking $1,000 onto their yearly income through blogging. The amount of time it takes to earn $1,000 a year from blogging is significantly less than the time it takes to earn even $10,000.

He is correct to say

this is not advice for people writing personal, diary-like blogs. Writing about your day, what you had for breakfast, who you argued with at school, and other mundane events is not going to earn you much money, if any.

If you want to make serious money from blogging, you have to treat blogging like a business. Of course you can still make money by writing about what you had for breakfast but then you’ll only get the attention if your readers are interested in you personally and willing to go along with the gastronomical voyeurism you have to offer.

Anyway, Ben goes on about how to get traffic and monetize your content with AdSense and later with affiliate programs. Some of those are like stating the obvious but most newbies fail to make money from blogging because they do not do, well the obvious stuff.

In the second part of the series, Ben writes:

People don’t want to click on advertisements in your sidebar. Strategically placing affiliate links within posts gets a much better conversion rate. I’m not the only person who has discovered this – any professional blogger will tell you the same thing. People are much more likely to click on a link within a post than they are to click an obvious advertisement on your sidebar.

If you are just stating out, the first thing you should do is to set a goal. Most people are destined to fail even before they start because they do not set any goal.

My advice is to start with an attainable but challenging goal. Work hard continuously to achieve that goal and once you’ve achieved it, set a bigger goal and repeat the cycle. Goal setting is so important it warrants an article of its own which I hope to write more about later.

Anyway, I personally have set a goal to be part of the six figure blogger club sometime in the future.

As some of you may have known already, blogging is not my only source of income from the Internet. I’d hope to achieve my six figure goal earlier as an Internet Marketer, and than later as a blogger.

If you are wondering whether I am talking in RM or USD terms, I am talking about six figure income in US dollars. I am already a six figure earner in RM which I think is easier to achieve considering the exchange rate is about 3.6 Ringgit to a dollar.

looks like blogosphere is a little online business world now. hrm. not really looking forward in gaining money from blogging. money seems to blind the blogger’s main objective of self-expression. then again, im nothing against gaining a 4-figure income through blogging.

I really regret not discovering about online income earlier. 6-fgure income would definitely be a lovely dream for me. I’m working hard for that 4 figure income. Earning good online money is not that hard but not that easy either. Takes a lot of hard work. :P

Pinobolu, we are all talking about earning 4 figure and six figure a year. Read post more clearly hehe. A year is so long, 4 figure is not a problem for most people. I am hoping to earn > 1000 USD a month too. Hope it will come soon.

Maybe you can write about internet marketing and how you earn six-figure? I’m sure it’ll be interesting (and useful) reading.
