The $10,000 per day AdSense Story Is a Lie?

May 10, 2006 by

ShoeMoney has accused Markus Frind the owner of PlentyOf is lying when he claimed he’s making $10,000 per day from Adsense.

ShoeMoney writes in his blog:

I remember when this guy was posting he was making 30$ a day from AdSense on webmasterworld. Then he solicited some people to scrape dating profiles of females from random sites so he could fill his dating website with female profiles.

Then he puts out some fake press releases with bullsh*t statistics like 5th largest dating site.
Now he makes up some crap that he is making 10k/day from AdSense

He hires people to blog about his bull crap and sends email to every blogger (including me) offering a “exclusive interview”. I called him out when he emailed me and told him I was not buying into his bullocks.

But what got me thinking was why Marcus isn’t a premium publisher yet as pointed out in the post.

Marcus has threaten to sue Shoemoney for libel so it could get ugly.

To this ShoeMoney responded:

Do you promise to sue me or is this more of your bs ? Atleast in court we would find out if you were full of crap on your figures.

Check out the story here: Plentyoffish – Marketing 101 When All Else Fails Just Lie

Regardless who is right, this incident will surely generate a lot of publicity for both sites. So if it doesn’t get any uglier, both parties will stand to gain someting out of this in term of online publicity and link back. Clever…

lol pinolobu I love youuuuu!

Seriously, PoF is ranked 800+ in Alexa, and if there’s less than 800+ people on earth making more than $10,000 a day from internet biz.. that would sound pathetic. We better go back and do some farming perhaps.

pinolobu: Hmm not impossible but I doubt it

Jee: A site earning has nothing to do with Alexa rating. BTW, it’s Adsense that we are talking about (earned by a single individual in this case) not Internet biz in general. That’s the distinction here. :)

site earning doesn’t directly related to Alexa rating.. but it’s very much in direct proportion to traffic. Alexa rating is about traffic.

Assuming that PoF have an Adsense eCPM of $5, that means he probably need some 2M page view a day, and probably some 500,000 visitor a day (4 page per visitor).. and that’s not an impossible figure to achive.

Else the eCPM could be higher, say $10.. that will require only 1M page view a day, and probably 250,000 visitor a day.

And Marcus probably didn’t claim that he is profiting $10000 a day right? He could be spending some $5000 in marketing and racking $10000 in return.

I will not jump into calling people liar when there’s so many reasonable doubts and possibilities.

Of course traffic is important but we can’t simply assume that only 800 business on the whole wide world earn 10K per day just based on Alexa traffic alone and conclude that we should go farming instead. In addition, it’s easy to fake Alexa stats making it more unreliable as a source of earning estimates.

There’s one company which is currently ranked 31/30 at Alexa but they are losing a million per day. Hence Alexa ranking (or traffic) is not always equal profit. I can even calculate the estimated traffic level based on Alexa stats but that does not mean anything in term of profit.

Actually PoE has 10M page view per day and the ePCM is 0.80. At least that’s what Marcus claimed. So that’s about $8000 per day. The number is one thing, but the way he monetize his site and the fact that he’s not a premium Adsense publisher are different things altogether. This bound to raise several eyebrows.

We are not talking about profit, we are talking about Adsense income per day regardless of his expenses.

Oh btw, the 10K Adsense income per day is already outdated as claimed by Marcus himself :) .
