If you are a CJ publisher, you might want to take a look at this.

New JavaScript Link Types at Commission Junction

kidmercury over at threadwatch.org writes

Jeff Molander chimes in on the topic, suggesting that this is in response to search engines dislike of affiliate links, and their desire to create solid and direct relationships with advertisers — many of whom already have tenuous relationships with affiliate publishers due to their effect on brands and their competition for search results.

Will other affiliate networks follow in Commission Junction’s footsteps? What are the implications for affiliate marketing if this is the case?

Top Ten SEO Mistakes

May 26, 2006 by Gaman · Leave a Comment

Are you doing any of these SEO mistakes without ever realizing it?

  • No Marketing Plan - if you don’t know who your market is, and what they want, rankings will not help you. They’ll just help chew bandwidth and raise your opportunity cost.
  • Selecting Keyword Terms Based Only On Traffic Volume - you need to be number #1 for “cars”, because the term “cars” recieves a lot of search queries and you sell “cars”? That won’t do you a lot of good if you only sell cars in Fiji. See #1.

What were your Adsense expectations?

May 26, 2006 by Gaman · 5 Comments

There’s an interesting discussion running over at Digital Point forum. A member starts off the topic by asking what your expectations were when you started using Adsense.

He writes:

Did you “hear from someone” who heard from someone else that it was easy money, that you wouldn’t have to work hard at all? Or did you come in with practical expectations that you’d have to work hard to build up a valuable site and start earning slowly?

ScanSafe unveils a search service called Scandoo that analyzes links from SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages) for malicious code, virus, spyware and other offensive or illegal content.

Currently it lets you search using either Google’s or MSN’s engine while Yahoo’s and Ask.com’s will be made available soon.

Scandoo works by displaying colour coded icons in green, yellow or red and black bug next to each search result to note safe, questionable and hazardous sites before you click the link.

There’s noting to install in order to use this service as it’s accessible directly via your browser.

Search Champ Google Loses To Rivals In Portal Services

May 26, 2006 by Gaman · Leave a Comment

This doesn’t come as a surprise since most of Google services are very young. What they need is time to build up their user base.

For the week ending May 13, Google dominated online search, accounting for 47 percent of all queries, compared with 16 percent and 12 percent for Yahoo and MSN, respectively, according to Web metrics firm Hitwise. But in comparing the rivals in terms of some of the most popular portal services, Yahoo is the clear winner in terms of total visits.

Join the Class Action Settlement Against Google or Not?

May 25, 2006 by Gaman · Leave a Comment

I haven’t decided this myself, have you?

Some people think the settlement is unfair and want more from Google.

I personally think that my AdWords campaigns have not been seriously affected by the click fraud problem. This is because the terms that I bid on attract low search volume - but in no way are they the cheapest per click. So any abnormality arising from any click fraud activities which could have seriously affected my conversion rates would be easily noticeable to me.

Or may be I didn’t look hard enough.

Google AdSense changes default Ads to Borderless Ads

May 25, 2006 by Gaman · Leave a Comment

Google has sent out an email to all publishers notifying them that Google will change the default colour palette from Seaside (formerly known as Mother Earth) to Open Air. For some reason I haven’t received that email.

Anyway, here’s how it’ll look like before and after the change:

They say many publishers prefer the cleaner look and they have also seen that a blended colour palette performs better for the publishers.

The new changes won’t affect me since I’ve been using borderless ads for a while.
