Comparing Yahoo! Search, Google, and MSN Search
June 14, 2006 by Gaman
There’s an excellent article over at SeoBook comparing the relevancy algorithms and business models of Google, Yahoo! Search, MSN Search and Ask.
From the post
Many people think a search engine is broken or their site is banned if they do not rank in one engine while they rank great in others. This article will hopefully help searchers understand the different relevancy criteria used by different engines. While people have looked at search engine ranking factors on a global level I do not think anyone has spent much time comparing and contrasting how different search engines compute their relevancy scores or bias their algorithms.
It’s a lengthy article going into great details looking at how each search engines ranking works which is based on onpage content, link reputation, site age, etc.
It goes further by touching on issues such as the search engine business model, social aspect, search marketing perspective and more.
If you’d like to learn more about SEO and how it works across different search engines, this article is a great starting point to immerse yourself into.
