Reduce Comment Spam With Akismet Worst Offenders and htaccess Extension
There are many useful plugins for Wordpress out there. Even some plugins are getting their own plugin.
One of such plugins is that of Richard Boakes which plugs into Akismet.
Akismet is a powerful and popular comment spam filter for Wordpress. It checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not.
Richard has added a small plugin called Worst Offenders Extension to Akismet 1.15 that helps you view and delete mass grouping of spam easily. It checks against the spam comments and identifies the worst offenders and isolates spammers by domain or IP Address.
Find Out How Many Pages Of Your Sites Indexed by the Search Engines
SEOlogs.com has announced the update of their indexed pages tool, also called search engine saturation.
It’s a simple tool to help you to find out how many pages of your website have been indexed by Google, Yahoo, MSN and more.
It now saves your results every time you use it so you can see your trends / history over time.
In addition to the Indexed pages tool, you can also use their Link Popularity tool in your SEO campaigns which also save the history each time you use it.
You can try both tools below:
JavaScript Links at CJ Start Today
CJ has launched Phase I of the Link Management Initiative (LMI) today.
With this release, they have introduced JavaScript links as the default link type in the CJ Account Manager, meaning that going forward you can use JavaScript links for all your publisher sites.
You will have the option to use Legacy links for all of your relationships through the beginning of 2007, as shown below when you click the “Get HTML” for their affiliate link.

When clicking “Legacy Link Code (non-JavaScript),” affiliates are brought to a window with the following message:
How to Add Social Bookmarking and Networking Icons below Each Post
One of my readers asked me what did I do to add the social bookmarking and networking sites icons below each post like you see here at Sabahan.com.

This is achieved using a simple plugin called WP-Notable by Cal Evans.
What I like about this plugin is it gives you the option to select which icons to display.

Additionally, when you hover your mouse over an icon, a tooltip will be displayed. You can add text to this tooltip to help your user identify exactly what clicking on the icon will do.

Jeremy Shoemaker Interviewed By Yahoo’s Michael Mattis
Jeremy of Shoemoney was featured on the Yahoo! Publisher Spotlight over at the YPN Blog.
I wonder I much Jeremy is making from Yahoo! Search Marketing. No doubt, it must be substantial to the point that it attracts YPN Blog staff’s attention.
The interview ends with this question and answer
MICHAEL MATTIS: If there were three things that you would tell other publishers to help them be successful, what would they be?
AdWords introduces ‘Retry card’ feature
At last, AdWords has added a much needed feature (for me at least) – the ‘retry card’ button.
Previously, if you want Google to retry charging your credit card, you would be required to re-enter your credit card information.
From now on, if your credit card has been declined and you have resolved the decline issue, you can simply go to the Billing Preferences page of your ‘My Account’ tab and click ‘Retry card’ to get your ads back up and running in one easy step.

Google Will Introduce Cost Per Action (CPA) Ads?
David Jackson of SeekingAlpha has written about an email from the Google’s AdSense team inviting him to participate in a new advertising program based on Cost Per Action (CPA) basis.
In CPA, you get paid whenever a site visitor clicks on the ad and performs a specified action, such as generating a lead or purchasing a product.
According to Google, these CPA ads will not compete with contextually targeted ads. Instead, they will show across a separate network, the Content Referral network. To place one of these ads on your site, you can set up a new ad unit that supports any of Google’s current ad unit sizes.
Most Microsoft Workers Search With Google
Interesting news article:
An overwhelming majority of Microsoft employees use rival Google to search the Internet, bloggers and a Web metrics company claimed Tuesday.
Andrew Hitchcock, a 19-year-old student at the University of Washington, got the ball rolling by posting Google Analytics statistics on visitors to his Web site. Of the users originating from Microsoft’s domain who reached Hitchcock’s site via a search engine, 80 percent came through Google. Only 20 percent used a Microsoft search engine (either MSN’s or the Live.com’s).
May be I’ll check my own Google Analytics stats to see how it compares to the results.
