Designing and building a house can be a nightmare especially when you have to deal with all the bureaucracy. I am a self taught programmer and do most of the software development myself. It's never too late to learn new skills even after college because the reward can be substantial in the end. I did contract out some programming jobs to free up my time so that I could do other important things such as creating websites and promoting etc. I'm mainly into VB. But will have to upgrade to C# and .NET stuff soon. Competition is always there. My products come with UPS - or unique selling preposition. I try to differentiate my software from my competitiors in terms of features, price etc. One thing that I've learned from the software business.. you do not have to create a perfect software, you just have to create software that people want. But that's not to say we can get away with buggy software. Debugging is an ongoing process of course. I agree. Expecting more than double that on piling and the legal things.
