From my experience, my dmoz listings have never received preferential attention from Yahoo's staff. Is there a forum discussion about this? I'd like to know.

I think yahoo is making a mistake for charging for listing anyway. One off may be just about acceptable, annual review fee is just over the top. Further, web visitors go to SE that gives them the result they want, Yahoo strategy has caused lots of site to be missed out - perhaps that is why I use google and not yahoo.

Have you use the dmoz.org route which Yahoo will pick the up as well, in the organic ranking (not sure if many people look at the strucutred directory anymore).
