Use Your Own Domain Name With Your Free Blogger.com Account
January 8, 2007 by Gaman
If you are using Google’s Blogger.com to host your blog, you’ll be happy to know that now you can use your own domain name for your blog.
Previously, you had to use blogname.blogspot.com address or use FTP upload to your domain via Blogger.com.
But now you can point any domain name to Google’s DNS servers, ghs.google.com, and enjoy all the benefits of using top level domain.
The main advantage of this is that you get free hosting for your blog and use your own domain as a branding platform. Many people consider blogs that use their own domain name are more credible.
You won’t get the full control and freedom as when hosting the blog yourself but it’s still a good choice if you do not want to bother setting up your own blog software and deal with hosting fees and setup hassles.
From Blogger FAQ
The first thing you’ll need to do is to choose a domain name, like mysite.com and register it. You can register domain names from any of a number of different registrars, and you can use .com, .org, .net or any other valid addresses. Remember: you only need to get the domain name; you don’t have to pay extra for hosting service.
My only concern is that if you have an existing blog at Blogger.com, your Google PageRank may be reduced to 0 when you do the switch.
