My Ten New Year’s Business Resolutions to Make Me Richer In 2007

January 22, 2007 by

Please excuse the title, I just find it to be more interesting to put that way. In any business, the ultimately goal is to increase the bottom line, to have more money, so here’s want I have in mind to help me achieve this goal.

I hope my plans might give you some ideas for making your own business more prosperous in 2007.

1. Managing My Affiliate Programs More Effectively

My main income comes from my software business. What I’d like to do more is communicate more effectively with my affiliates to improve our relationships. I’d like to offer them more options and creatives that they can use in promoting my products. If they make money, I’ll make money. This is one area that I’ve been paying less attention to and I want to change that.

2. Create New Products

I am still looking for new product ideas. But I’ll come up with something I know. Things have been stagnant for a while and I dislike that.

I stumble upon the Niche Software Success package last night and it took me less than five minutes to take out my credit card and purchased the package. I am not a compulsive shopper but that’s what happens when I am in the buying frame of mind and someone offers something what I wanted.

In the mean time, I’ll be looking for a graphic designer to help me create a supporting product for one of my software. He/she should be familiar with Photoshop and is able to produce commercial quality art design. Please contact me and we can discuss the further.

3. Make Money With Pay per Lead/affiliate programs Using PPC Search Engines

After reading Jeremy Palmer’s Quit Your Day Job and Scott Boulch’s Life After AdSense ebooks, I decided 2007 is the year to get back into this. I had tried AdWords with affiliate programs and PPL before but it was a money losing endeavor. With my new found knowledge, hopefully 2007 will turn things around.

I am currently reviewing the Pay Per Lead Power Ads System, it requires a monthly subscription of US47.

I haven’t made the decision yet but I feel the vendor is trying too hard to sell the sizzle, not the steak. While it may works for some people, it can easily be a turn off for me. I might end up buying it anyway to see what it is all about. They have a 30 days money back guarantee don’t they? I might write about this later.

4. Improve My Blogs Technorati Rankings

I could have aim for more Feedburner readers, or more traffic, or higher Google’s PageRank but instead I think Technorati ranking is a better indication of a blog success.

Technorati ranking relates to the number of sources linking to your blog relative to other blogs. The more blogs linking to your blog, the higher you rank will be. In a way, it’s an indicator of your blog influence in the blogosphere.

To achieve that, I’ll try to post quality information consistently, and do all things a blogger would do to promote a blog.

One of my goals when I started this blog was to have 10,000 visitors daily after a year. Sadly, the goal didn’t materialize and I know why. It’s an overly ambitious goal for a blog such as mine which serves the Internet Marketing/Blogging niche.

Even ProBlogger.net which is in the Technorati Top 100 does not have that kind of daily traffic at the time at this writing.

To give you an idea where Sabahan.com stands today

Sabahan.com Rank: 33,589 (347 links from 99 blogs)

ShaolinTiger.com Rank: 25,727 (316 links from 127 blogs)

LiewCF.com Rank: 4,463 (1,365 links from 534 blogs)

ProBlogger.net Rank: 67 (14,085 links from 4,305 blogs)

ShaolinTiger.com is ranked higher than Sabahan.com simply because he has 28 extra blogs linking to it despite Sabahan.com having more links. Not to mention it has been around longer than Sabahan.com

My goal is to break to the top 5000 by the end of December 2007. If I take LiewCF.com as the baseline, to achieve this goal, I am going to need 435 more blogs linking to me and that works out to be 36 new blogs linking to me every month or about 1.2 per day!

With a higher Technorati ranking, the increase in blog traffic, Alexa ranking and FeedBurner readers should follow naturally.

5. Learn New Skills and Knowledge

A good writing skill and a good command of English are essential ingredients for building a successful blog. English is my second language, therefore continuous effort to improve my English and writing skills are important for me.

Another thing that I would like to learn is the .NET programming language, in particular VisualBasic.Net or C#. As a programmer I need to equip myself with this language to stay up to date. Obviously, there’s a need to migrate my software into a newer platform to avoid problems in the future.

Another skill that helps me increase my productivity is my typing skill. With the help of TypingMaster, I’ve improved my typing speed tremendously.

In addition to the above, I’ll continue to equip myself with new skills and knowledge in the Internet marketing arena. I don’t usually pay serious attention to all the money making/Internet marketing ebooks out there, but if they offer something I want to learn and be successful at, they will get the sell easily.

I’ve recently purchased two ebooks, Perry Marshalls’ The Definitive Guide To Google AdWords and Software Niche Success

6. Improve Data Backup Strategies

I just need to act and take concrete actions in this area. By the way, you can get a free 2GB online back up from Mozy.

7. Outsource More

If I want my business to grow, it’s necessary for me to outsource some of the stuff that I am doing. Just can’t do it everything myself can I?

So far I have a full time assistance and programmers working for me on a contractual basis. Problem is I think I am just too laid back when it comes to finding others to help me out. As a result everything was put on hold and nothing happens. I hope this will change this year.

8. Increase My Advertising Budget

I’ve started doing this already earlier this year and I’ll continue to increase the size of my keyword lists and seek out new advertising venues.

9. Earn At Least USD10,000 By December 2007

At the risk of sounding egocentric, I am already earning a five figure monthly income from the Internet in Ringgit Malaysia . By Malaysian standard, earning this much can be a good excuse for me to become complacent and be satisfied with what I have.

But as the Ringgit strengthen against the US dollars; my income in Ringgit will decrease if I become complacent. I will only consider myself really successful once I break the USD10K monthly income level. I’ll write more about this in my future posts.

10. Manage My Time Better

Instead of spending my days getting busy with activities that bring less return, I’ll concentrate on getting results and not on being busy.

Instead of getting caught up dealing with other people’s blogs I would spend more on writing and promoting my blog.

I’ll spend the first hour of each working day writing and creating products, rather than reading blogs and answering emails.

That’s about it. I’ll have follow up posts and let you know how I’m doing. Tell me what you think.

I wouldn’t worry too much about Technorati, it doesn’t bring much extra traffic unless you have the right tags at the right times, it doesn’t make much difference if you have higher authority or not.

I used to have 300/400 blogs linking to me, my ranking was about 2,400. Not sure what happened, haha.

There are so many new blogs now with so many links the metrics have completely changed.

The rest is good stuff anyway, I still haven’t reached 5 figures in ringgit yet, that’s my next goal :)

Go for the 5 figures US! You’d be one of the first in Malaysia if you manage that.

Hi Gaman, good luck in your new resolutions. I have learnt a lot from your blog keke. I was wondering what kind software you are selling? Are you a programmer? Just out of curiousity. :P

shaolinTiger: Technorati probably doesn’t mean much for blogs that are ranked higher than 10,000 nevertheless it’s till the most widely accepted blog metric in the blogosphere. Imagine being in the top 100, now that’s something :)

The higher I’m ranked the more money I can command from Text-Link-Ads.com too hehe. Anyway, at the rate you are going, I am sure you’ll reach 5 figure RM soon

allbynose: No reseller copyright available at the moment.. sorry :) But in the future, I’ll post how I plan to achieve this.

Katana: I am a self-taught programmer. I know you’ve been doing very well with you blog. You must be making tons of money from AdSense now.
