Malaysia’s Internet Service Full Restoration Delayed Again Until 29 January 2007

January 23, 2007 by

TM has announced today on their website that due to the unforeseen bad weather conditions, the full restoration of Malaysia’s Internet service will only be completed by January 29th.

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) would like to update its customers on the on-going restoration works undertaken by the consortium for its Internet services, which were affected by the earthquake off Taiwan on December 26th, 2006. To date, we have already recovered more than 80 per cent bandwidth capacity for the Internet traffic.

The consortium, which TM is a member of, is still fervently working towards the full restoration of the submarine cables affected by the incident. The consortium has duly informed us that the current bad weather conditions in the affected area are delaying the restoration works in progress. The extensive works undertaken by the consortium include laying new cables as many are experiencing high tension on them; and additional repair works are needed to be performed on several cables damaged by fishing hooks.

In view of these unforeseen circumstances, the consortium has confirmed that the full restoration will be completed by January 29th, 2007. Your patience is much appreciated during this restoration process.

Now whose fault is that? Should we blame TM for their false promises, or the consortium for supplying them incorrect information? Or the weather?

We hope TM have learned their lesson and seriously rethink their future strategy when natural disasters like this happen.

We can still surf the net with 80% of the full capacity but today it feels like I am only at 10%. The inefficiency of the local Internet exchange is rubbing salt into the wound. It makes the Internet connection worse in my area.

NO wonder im slow today. especially when expecting something happening in your internet business. Still TM responsible in this case. they take our money and thus they should take care this as soon as possible. No excuses. unless they said, ok customers, last month bill no need to pay even after the due date. Our service is still not fully operational 100%. You will only be billed after the obstacle solved. thank you.
