You forgot the most important one. Number 16, Matt Mullenweg. Without him, you won’t have the blogging application you’re even on. Currently at 22, he’s also the youngest guy to top the list. It shows you don’t need ads to be rich. Just create something that people really need. 🙂

I don’t know about you but I feel that I am not as dependent on WordPress. If it doesn’t exist, I can always use other existing and open source blogging software or platform.

Also over 90% of my online income is unrelated to blogging/wordpress. Surprising but true and without Google, I’ll probably make 70% less than what I’m making today. This blog is still young and its future can be exciting.

But I agree with you, he has one of the most widely used open source software. I don’t think he benefits financially from WordPress though, it’s an open source after all.

Him and people who created WordPress and other OSS apps could benefit from OSS via support.

They could but I think is a non profit organization and doesn’t offer paid support. Perhaps he offers customize version of WordPress to corporate users and make money from that.

Those events took place on the Internet. Because of him, people can download his program and start copying protected DVD easily. iTunes, the post popular paid music download service online was cracked by him several times.
