Malaysian Strongest Blogs Ranking

April 9, 2007 by

After publishing the list of most influential blogs in Malaysia here in Sabahan.com, Alang of Webmaster Malaysia blog has came up with an alternative ranking which list down blogs by their “strength”. The list is based on my influential blog list and blogs he discovered at Project Petaling Street .

He uses the Page Strength tool which was devised by SEOmoz to gauge the relative importance and visibility of a webpage. To come up with a score, Page Strength takes into account several factors including Google backlink, yahoo backlink, keyword ranking, Alexa ranking, Technorati ranking and several other metrics.

Is it a better way to measure the importance and visibility of a webpage as compare to using Technorati ranking alone? Yes it is. But as the title says it measures the Page Strength according to the algorithm developed by SEOmoz. How the tool weights the importance of each factor against each other to come up with the final score is unknown.

Technorati alone measures the relative popularity of a blog in the blogosphere which in a way can be attributed to its influence. On the other hand, Page Strength isn’t limited to blogs but covers any page across the web.

Jeff Ooi occupies the top spot with a Page Strength of 7 out of 10. Some lesser know blogs such as one that belongs to Safirul Alredha is head to head with Kennysia.com one of the most popular blogs in Malaysia . Both have a Page Strength of 6.5/10.

It just goes to show that this is not merely a measure of popularity but more.

With a Page Strength of 5.5, I was a little surprise to see that I’ve a better Page Strength than Liewcf.com and Paultan.org.

While it’s nice to know that I have a good Page Strength, this metric isn’t suitable for advertisers who are looking for blogs to advertise on.

There are just so many metrics out there and each says a different thing about a web page.

For now I think the combination of Alexa, Google PageRank and Technorati data are the most widely acceptable metrics to measure a page strength and potential return on investment for advertisers.

Nonetheless, webmasters who are looking for an accessible metric to measure their page relative importance and visibility will find this tool useful if not fun.

tak kisah blog saya tak masuk pun. My blog is still new, less than one year with small audience base (because it is in malay language). My main purpose is to list the most strongest blogs in malaysia but seems like 3 / 10 is too low and easy to archive. Now almost every blogger asking me to include their blogs lol…

(Comments wont nest below this level)
