Find Out How Many Users Are Currently Reading Your Blog With User Online Plugin

May 11, 2007 by

Here’s a fun WordPress plugin that shows how many users are online on your WordPress blog.

Some of the features offered by WP-UserOnline are

  • View detailed statistics if your visitors IP address the page they are reading and whether they are members, guests or search bots. IP addresses are only visible to the blog admin.
  • Drag and drop UserOnline Widget to your sidebar with widget.
  • Show users browsing a page and the most number of users online.

Who needs this if you already have Sitemeter or other stats tool?

You can get a feel on how people are responding to your blog posts by taking a quick glance at your user online stats. It may also be interesting for your visitors to find that there are other likeminded readers who are reading the same post as them.

Here at, you can see the number of user online on my left sidebar. It’s a clickable link pointing to the the user online page that shows where the readers are at

At the end of each post, you can see how many people are currently reading a particular post as shown below.

Download WP-UserOnline here.

Nice. But sometimes I wary that too many plugins will eventually slow down my page loading time.

Sadly, I dislike the graphic and it’s not as flexible as this plugin. But it probably suits those who just need that who’s online feature.

The graphics is bad, I still prefer the simple one too. What happened to internet privacy…..

I implemented it on my website and it literally make the loading crawl so i removed it…something tells me it takes up a lot of resources.

I actually wondered if thing like that could happen on a very busy site like yours and it did. Perhaps the developer has to implement some kind of caching ability. Anyway I’ll look into this.

I use the Live plugin to see in realtime what users are viewing

I do have WP-User Online installed but for the frontpage, the realtime display of Usersonline is now ably handled by Pieer’s Wordspew

i installed long time ago at my other, a broken down domain, it’s so funny to know that the most visitors came was on Valentine’s day… when the blog is nothing about it. Hahahha.
I used both. i’ve got no traffic… so its quite surprising sometimes to see, they can be many people in certain time and date when u least expected. Cool.
