I do have my share of ‘i diss you, you don’t diss me’ situations. Since it is a long one, I decide to make a post of it instead of writing a long one on Sabahan’s comment box. Here are some reasons why I refused : 1) I actually ban one advertiser because LOL, they are too fussy with their requirements. It is empowering to tell them, hey, pack your bag and go elsewhere. I am not going to write or even want to see anymore paid opps from you. 2) I have long lists of opps which I can take for my PR 5/10 blog but I refused because the topics are either not interesting or the amount they gave is pathetic. 3) Adverlets did approach my parenting blog for ads eventhough I am not registered with them. I didn’t take it because I have a principle of not advertising cow’s milk related products as my site promotes breastfeeding. 4) I have one penis enlargement LOL text link on my personal blog but it is a foreign site. I actually found it quite funny so I leave the link there. I notice that the text link received the most clicks. If the site has been in English, I would reject it right away. Personally, I feel if we are serious about building a blog, we have to stay away from too many monetizing stuffs. The choice is ours - be a good blog or be an income blog. Both don’t mix. It is normally hard to achieve that balance. Even for nuffnang ads, I only place one ad because I want to keep my blog neat. I feel like getting a seizure when I see some sites place not three but six blocks of the two local ads companies. Some of these are flashing red blinking lights. My dear friends, this is not a wise thing to do because the money you earned from the ads does not justify the damage it does to your blog image. In the long run, people are not going to visit your blog. No visits, mean less income. Don’t be the fool that wrote something like ‘I like this abc ad company because they give ads to even zero traffic blog, abc company doesn’t discriminate small blogs’. Think long term. If you have a good blog, you can easily earn up to RM150 or even more per block of ad per week with the traffic you have. Do the calculation? Remember that advertisers are not charitable bodies. And we are not beggars. They want traffic. We want image. And we owe it to our readers to provide them useful things to read, not colourful ads that give our brain seizures.
