TM Launches 4Mbps Broadband
May 26, 2007 by Gaman · 9 Comments
On 20th March, I wrote about TM plan to introduce 4 Mbps broadband to TM customers in June. True to their word, the package is now rolled out and available to home users.
TM has introduced two new packages, 2 Mbps and 4 Mbps which cost RM188 and RM268 per month with modem respectively.
While those prices are not out of reach for me, at those speeds, I still find them way too expensive.
I wonder who are they trying to sell the packages to. As far as I know, I should be one of those who fit nicely into their target demographics.
I am a heavy home user and not the average one. I make a living working full time online so the new packages should serve me well. But at that price, I have to pass. I don’t usually download/upload big files and I don’t play online games.
How to Increase Your FeedBurner Subscriber Count Instantly
May 25, 2007 by Gaman · 14 Comments
You may have noticed that my FeedBurner subscribers count has increased to around 165+ from a previous value of around 90+.
While the number is still lower than what I hoped it to be, it’s still nice to see the increase.
I find that the majority of Malaysian blog readers prefer to visit blogs directly instead of reading them via a feed reader. Perhaps this is one of the reasons for the low subscriber count shown here.
Anyway, what did I do to increase my the number?
Actually this method does not increase your subscribe count, what it does is that it just start showing you the correct number.
To achieve this, head over to FeedBurner.com and install the plugin called Feedburner_Feedsmith
The plugin detect the ways people used to access your feed (e.g. http://www.yoursite.com/feed/ or http://www.yoursite.com/wp-rss2.php, etc.), and redirect them to your FeedBurner feed so you can track every possible subscriber.

May 25, 2007 by Gaman · 3 Comments
Now it’s time to run another survey. It would be interesting to know what’s making you the most money from your blog.
I am sure it’ll be beneficial to know what currently works best for bloggers (well at least those who read my blog) as far as monetizing a blog is concern.
If you are concern with your privacy, don’t worry, I won’t be tracking who’s voting what.

PlentyOfFish.com Now Generates Over $800,000 per Month from AdSense
May 24, 2007 by Gaman · 14 Comments
Remember in March last year I wrote about Markus Frind, the owner of a free dating site PlentyOfFish.com who was making $10,000 per day from AdSense?
When the news broke out, many were skeptical about the validity of his claim and some questioned his motive for revealing his achievement.
Here’s a guy who runs a multi-million dollars operation without the support of massive infrastructure and man power other than himself. It’s hard to believe how this is possible.
He posted on his blog a picture of a check from Google AdSense for nearly $1 million for a two month period. Google later confirmed the $1 million check was for real (the currency was in Canadian Dollar).
Today his site is now ranked fifth as most popular US dating site by Hitwise. Markus now reports PlentyofFish.com is bringing in between $5 to $10 million per year. That’s over $800,000 per month, or $26,000 per day!
WordPress 2.2 Is Now a Mandatory Upgrade
If you are currently on WordPress 2.1.3, it’s now mandatory to upgrade to the latest version of WordPress v2.2.
Mark Jaquith of Mark on WordPress clarifies that there will be no further releases in the 2.1.x branch. 2.2 includes security fixes that 2.1.3 lacks, so your only upgrade path is to 2.2
If you have not done it already you can download WordPress 2.2 here.
There are a lot of new features in version 2.2 such as the addition of WordPress Widgets, full atom support, a new blogger importer, infinite comment stream and so on.
However on the surface of things, it’s not much different from 2.1.3 as far as the user interface is concern.
Keep Track With What’s Popular With Google Hot Trends
Google has introduced Hot Trends a few days ago. Everybody – at least from the blogs that I subscribe to is talking about it.
Google Hot Trends is kind of like a combination of Google Trends and Zeitgeist.
While Zeitgeist shows what’s popular for a given period of time – weekly, monthly and annually, Hot Trends which replaces it shows the top 100 fastest growing keywords by date. This is interesting because you can find what evens, people or questions that defined a particular day.
According to Reuters , Hot Trends will be refreshed several times daily, using data from millions of Google Web searches conducted up to an hour before each update.
Today post popular search is “American idol winner”. Yea I am a fan of AI and am looking forward to the live broadcast via Satellite this evening.

Here’s an easy way for you to make money online. All you have to do is participate in Google usability studies for the new and upcoming features of blogger.
You can choose from three types of studies.
- Usability study at a Google office
Typically, you will use a Google product or prototype, and give feedback on it. You could either meet 1-on-1 with a Google researcher, or work as part of a group. Most studies are done at their HQ in Mountain View, California , but they have offices all over the world , so you can sign up for this type of study even if you don’t live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Unfortunately, we don’t have Google office in Malaysia .
WordPress Tutorial: How to Upgrade to The Latest Version
May 23, 2007 by Gaman · Leave a Comment
I’ve been asked if there’s an upgrade tutorial each time after I upgraded Sabahan WordPress installation to the latest version. So I here it is.
The following tutorial is adapted from the original article from WordPress codex.
If you have large database, the upgrade – especially the backing part – will usually take longer than 5 minutes.
Step 1: Backup Your Current WordPress Installation
Backup the database using phpMyAdmin or other database tool provide by your web hosting company.
Then use ftp to download a copy of all the files from the server including the .htaccess files. To be safe, I usually download everything from public folder. This is to make sure any WordPress core files that were modified are backup.
Step 2: Deactivate Plugins
Top 10 Excuses People Make That Stop Them From Making Money Online
There are many people who dream of becoming their own boss and achieving financial freedom by working on the Internet – who doesn’t. But many find it difficult if not impossible to accomplish this dream.
It starts with some doubts people have in their mind which prevent them from taking actions. By not taking actions, these doubts become self-fulfilling prophecy that perpetuates the notion that you can’t make money online.
Of course it’s perfectly normal to be doubtful. However, unless you believe that you really can make good money online; your dream will never come true.
You see I have been working online for couple of years now. Even now, when I launch a new project, sometimes I have doubts whether it will succeed or not. However, instead of contemplating on what’s possible and what’s not, I went ahead and just do it.
