More Malaysian Have Made It Into Paula Neal’s List of Blogger Salaries
June 25, 2007 by Gaman · 12 Comments
Paula Neal has updated the list of blogger salaries over at her blog. This time around, more Malaysian have made into the list. As I’ve pointed out previously, her first list – the title in particular – was a little misleading because the list includes non-bloggers who made money from other non-blogging sources.
It looks like Paula has addressed this point by mentioning that the list also includes webmasters, affiliate marketers, content scrappers, domainers and any other title you can think of.
While the list is by no means definitive, I am sure it took Paula quite an effort to compile it. Whether it’s intentional or not, the list has become an effective link baiting article that has directly catapulted Paula’s blog into the Top 2000 of Technorati ranking.
How I wish I’ve came up with such list first. LOL.
Here are the Malaysian bloggers that have been included. They are
New Category Created: Reader Poll
I’ve been conducting reader poll at Sabahan.com and thought it would be appropriate to create a dedicated category where I can put all the polls in one place for easy reference. So I created a category named ‘Reader Poll’ for that purpose.
Running a poll gives my readers the opportunity to give a feedback about my blog. I’ll be able to know them better by asking questions that matter most to them. Then, I could use this information to improve this blog.
Also if you have a suggestion about a poll topic that I should conduct here, just let me know in the comment section.

Kontera ContentLink Returns
June 23, 2007 by Gaman · 8 Comments
You may have noticed that the Kontera ads have made a come back here at Sabahan.com. Kontera offers in-text ads which are imbedded into text and identifiable by the double underlined link throughout my blog.
While it doesn’t get me too excited because of bad usability factors and intrusive nature associated with such ads, I feel it’s always good to have a firsthand experience running Kontera, be it positive or negative.
In my previous attempt, Kontera was run for a day. That wasn’t enough to test drive the ads to form sufficient opinions about its potential as a source of advertising revenue.
In particular, I am testing to see how it’ll affect my AdSense income, traffic level and readers experience. I’ll also be watching the relevancy of the ads – whether they are in context with the post where they appear in.
Google Power Searcher Tip to Help You Find Fresher Documents
June 22, 2007 by Gaman · 4 Comments
Do you know that you can ask Google to only show newly updated results by specifying the date option when performing a search?
By newly updated results, I mean those pages that were recently fetched by Google and included into their index.
Google estimated the age of a URL as the last time they fetched the page. However, the URLs returned on the search result don’t always represent the recent ones due to Google’s ranking algorithm.
If you want to see documents that have been updated, say the last three months, you can do so my specifying the Date option in Google’s Advance Search.
Here’s an example. A normal search for sabahan returns the following results.

If you want more recent results, you can restrict the search to the last three months.

An Interview With a Guy Who Buys Millions of Keywords For His Clients
Robert Scoble has a post up over at his blog about a candid interview he did with Jeff Figueiredo of Point It.
If you are running a pay-per-click (PPC) advertising campaign, this is a great video to watch to get some insights into how the big (and medium) spenders are spending their money on their PPC campaigns.
Scoble covers many areas and asked questions that of interest to any PPC advertisers. These includes:
How do I find the keywords to advertise on?
How do I know how much to pay?
What is the difference between “exact match” and “phrase match” and “broad match”?
Why is Google doing so well?
And so on
Google AdWords Pay Per Action Beta Opens Internationally
June 22, 2007 by Gaman · Leave a Comment
Google has announced today that their Pay-Per-Action (PPA) pricing model for AdWords are now available globally in some 24 languages.
AdWords advertiser who use AdWords conversion tracking and receive more than 500 conversions from their cost-per-click (CPC) or cost-per-thousand impressions (CPM) campaigns in the most recent 30-day period will be invited to join this beta test, on a rolling basis.
I think it’s important that Google deliver satisfactory level of ad impressions for Advertisers at this early stage if they want to encourage adoption of this pricing model. Coming from Google, I am certain they have a way to make it works.
I am looking forward to test drive this option for my AdWords campaigns and see how it could improve conversion rates for my own products. The obvious advantage of this pricing model for advertisers is that, they pay only when specific actions that they define are completed by a user on their site.
How to Install Windows Vista on a Separate Partition and Dual Boot It With Windows XP
June 21, 2007 by Gaman · 9 Comments
I upgraded my operating system to Windows Vista Ultimate a few days ago without having to wipe Windows XP from my hard disk. It involved installing Vista on a separate partition in my hard disk so that I can still run Windows XP anytime I like.
By doing so, I’ll have an OS to fall back to in case my Windows Vista installation goes horribly wrong. But I didn’t have a choice, I would have to make Vista works and I am glad it did.
This method works if you have a PC running Windows XP and you want to install Windows Vista from its installation DVD to have both OS dual boot.
For those who don’t know, dual boot is the ability to boot your computer using one of two different operating systems.

ClickHeat – A Free Crazy Egg Alternative
June 21, 2007 by Gaman · 2 Comments
Yesterday I wrote about Crazy Egg, a click tracking tool that could help you analyse your visitors click behaviour.
Today I came across another tool called ClickHeat that could do the same for free. ClickHeat is a free PHP script that creates a visual heatmap of clicks on any web page you specify. The script can be hosted and run from your own server to allow tracking of unlimited number of clicks.
You can use it to track clicks on as many domains or web pages as you like. You can even host the script on one domain and allow your other domains to access it from there instead of having to install it on each domain.

While the interface is not as flashy as Crazy Egg, it’ll get the job that if all you wanted is to track users’ click. Unlike Crazy Egg which offers four methods to analyse your clicks, ClickHeat uses the heatmap mode only.
Track & Analyse Visitors Clicks On Your Blog With Crazy Egg
June 20, 2007 by Gaman · 6 Comments
Crazy Egg is a nifty tool that could help you analyse your visitors’ behaviour and find out how they interact with your website elements and content.
Unlike other tracking tools such as Google Analytics or Site Meter which track traffic trends and behaviour, Crazy Egg maps every time a visitor clicks on whatever elements you have on your site. This should give you a clear picture of not only where your visitors are on your site but what they are clicking on.
You can test different versions of a page to see which works better. Armed with this information, you can better identify the best placement for your AdSense ads or utilise the design that could improve your pages conversion rates.
Crazy Egg offers four methods to analyse your clicks:
