June 20, 2007 by Gaman · 20 Comments

I stumble upon the seminar page before and was thinking to write about it and the growing trend I noticed where our enterprising local netpreneurs organizing seminars here and there to teach the general public how to make money online.

First off, the aim of this article is not to discredit the blogging seminar organizer, I am just offering my opinion for the benefit of those wondering if there’s any other alternative.

June 20, 2007 by Gaman · 2 Comments

Last week eBay pulled all their campaigns from Google AdWords to protest a party planned by Google to promote Google Checkout that was coincide with the eBay Live event in Boston.

The eBay’s event was overshadowed by Google planned to promote Google Checkout to eBay sellers who used PayPal.

Google said eBay has been refusing to offer Google Checkout as a payment option for sellers and buyers on eBay even after Google had been approached by power sellers to obtain access to Checkout.

When I read the story I wondered how much cash Google lost after eBay pulled their ads.

A few days after Google AdWords introduced Placement Performance reporting on the Google content network, another useful feature was recently unveiled.

In addition to controlling your ad placement through methods such as location and language targeting, site exclusion, and network distribution preferences, you can refine your targeting with Internet Protocol (IP) address exclusion. With this tool, advertisers can now specify if they do not want their ads to show up for specific IP addresses

The tool currently allows exclusion of up to 20 IP addresses, or ranges of addresses, per campaign.

How to Split Long Posts Into Multiple Pages

June 18, 2007 by Gaman · 1 Comment

Gary King has a post up over at The Blog Herald where he writes about a useful but not very well known feature in WordPress that could help you break up a long post into multiple pages.

I think I’ve come across this feature before but have never paid much attention to it. Once in a while when you write a long enough article and need a way to use pagination (the numbering of pages), here’s how to do this with WordPress.

In the Write interface in your WordPress admin, switch to the Code view if you are currently using the Visual view, then enter the following code at the end of the first page:

June 18, 2007 by Gaman · 5 Comments

A few months after I wrote about my intention here and here to upgrade my operating system to Microsoft’s latest operating system, Windows Vista, I finally did it on Saturday last weekend.

I managed to grab an OEM copy for RM680 after shopping around at Karamunsing Complex in Kota Kinabalu.

Getting Ready For Vista

I ran the Vista Upgrade Advisor, an application that helps Windows XP users identify which edition of Vista meets their needs and whether their PCs are ready for an upgrade and I passed with flying colours.

Which One Is More Effective - Long or Short Posts?

June 14, 2007 by Gaman · 10 Comments

Darren Rowse of Problogger.net has recently received a questing from his reader where he was asked about the length of articles the reader should write.

Is it true that long and detailed articles will help them get indexed and linked while the shorter ones keep the feed readers happy?

The quick answer to that question is, just do what works in your situation. Sites like Engadget.com or Gizmodo.com for example often posted short posts while others like DoshDosh.com or SteveParlina.com prefer longer ones.

Those blogs are successful in what they are doing.

I Was Invited to Join AdSense Optimization Program

June 14, 2007 by Gaman · 2 Comments

This morning I received an email from the AdSense Optimization Team where they invited me to join their AdSense optimization program.

I was actually asked to refrain from sharing this information with the media (I won’t do that) or with other AdSense publishers. But I can’t help it but share something at my blog but I won’t divulge everything.

Their goal is to work closely with interested publishers to apply their best practices and implement optimized layouts for your pages. As part of the Optimization program, a participant will gain access to an optimization specialist who will review his/her site to create and provide an optimized site layout.

Got paid links on your site? Someone might report you to Google.

Google has added a new feature to Webmasters Central Tools which allows you to report paid links that you find on various sites.

It’s unclear whether Google will start penalizing all sites that’s being reported to sell paid links but if they do they might as well penalized all the sites, over 20,000 of them that are listed in Text-Link-Ads.com directory.

On the report paid link form, Google writes
