Topics Suggestion – What Do You Want to Read?

September 11, 2007 by · 18 Comments

From a poll I conducted recently, I know majority of my readers are interested to read more about money making tips.

However, instead of trying to come up with the topics myself, I’d like to ask your opinion about the topics that you want me to write about.

If you want to learn more about something, this is your chance to let me know. I’ll do the research and share my findings here.

Obviously, it’s not possible to satisfy every suggestion so I’ll select those that I have some knowledge in that can benefit others too. You may suggest any topics in the following areas

  • Blog/site promotions
  • Tech Development and News
  • Making money tips
  • Search engine optimizations
  • Others…?

How a 17 Year Old Girl Earns $70K Monthly From Her Website

September 10, 2007 by · 44 Comments

I came across an interesting story from Connected Internet about a 17 years old Ashley Qualls who earns as much as $70,000 a month from a website that gives away free layout for MySpace.

Most of this income comes from Google AdSense.

So far she has made more than $1 million from her site at Whateverlife.com. Her first AdSense paycheck was $2,790 and she had rejected $1.5 million buyout offer.

Whateverlife attracts more than 7 million unique visitors and 60 million page views a month. That’s a larger audience than the circulations of Seventeen, Teen Vogue, and CosmoGirl! magazines combined.

In contrast, TechCrunch.com gets 4 million page views per month, 15 times less pageviews.

Quantcast, a popular source among advertisers, ranked Whateverlife.com a staggering No. 349 in mid-July out of more than 20 million sites. Among the sites in its rearview mirror: Britannica.com, AmericanIdol.com, FDA .gov, and CBS.com.

Should Bloggers Reveal Their Income?

September 6, 2007 by · 36 Comments

Revealing your income can be a good way to generate buzz to your blog if you are making good money from it.

After revealing my income the other day, the post was mentioned in several blogs, many of which were new to me. It’s a good way to attract other bloggers to link to you.

As I wrote earlier some bloggers may prefer to keep quiet about their income for fear of being copied by others, or they don’t want to be perceived as bragging.

On the other hand, sharing the details of your blog’s income (or Internet income) offers a powerful way to generate interest and it helps to keep the buzz going.

I see this method used effectively by John Chow Dot Com. By revealing his income, he had attracted the attention of many people including several TV stations that had invited him as a guess to talk about his money making blog.

10 Tips to Improve Your Google AdWords Quality Score

September 5, 2007 by · 7 Comments

In late 2005, Google began testing a new algorithm for AdWords to improve the quality of AdWords landing pages when Google realized that some advertisers were sending visitors to sites with low quality content or duplicate content.

Now, imagine yourself clicking on an AdSense ad and landed on such sites, you might not click AdSense as often because your may perceive the ads as low quality.

When users stop finding the ads useful, Google, AdSense publishers and AdWords advertisers will stop to make money.

To avoid this problem from plaguing the system, Google introduced an ad evaluation system called Quality Score.

The official definition of Quality Score is:

Quality Score is the basis for measuring the quality and relevance of your ads and determining your minimum CPC bid for Google and the search network. This score is determined by your keyword’s clickthrough rate (CTR) on Google, and the relevance of your ad text, keyword, and landing page.

What Would You Do If You Are Experiencing a Blogger’s Block?

I had been out of town, away from the computer for the past few days during the long weekends. We were celebrating the Independence Day on the 31st of August.

From where I am, it sometimes involves an activity that we called Aramai Tii or “be merry” in its direct translation.

While most Malaysian think that we are celebrating our 50th year of Independence, we Sabahan would like to think that it’s only the 44th year.

Historically, Malaysia as we know today only came into existence formally when Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore joined Malaya in 1963. As a matter of fact 50 years ago was the Independence Day of Malaya from the British.

Sabah was supposed to attain independence through Malaysia on 31st August 1963. However a study by the UN on confirmation of the wishes of the people was delayed and the official merger date was then postponed by two weeks to 16th Sept 1963.
