Terrible Internet Connection & A Second Round PageRank Update?
October 25, 2007 by Gaman
I’ve been experiencing a terrible Internet connection since yesterday and probably unable to post lengthy post for now. I’ve called Streamyx last night but I was disconnected after going through all the ‘mandatory’ troubleshooting for 20 minutes. Yea, that’s a ‘great’ TMNet customer support that you come to expect.
I am on the phone with them right now.
Anyway, apparently Google is doing a second round of the PageRank shake up and according to HTNet, Sabahan.com is now a 3. I can’t check this myself because my connection doesn’t even load Sabahan.com main page properly. (Update - yes that’s seem to be the case)
If you are wondering how this would affect me. well it’s still business as usual but then I’ll have to realign some of my strategies. I have over 40 domain names and about 30+ are active blogs/websites/forums. Not all of them are affected. In addition, the majority of them do not depend on PageRank to make me money. I’ll write about this more in my next post.
Anyhow, the penalty seems to affect almost everyone regardless of how good the content.

Are your sites or blogs affected (again)?

Personally, I think Google will do the world a lot of good if it just keeps the PR figures to themselves.
Most people like “ratings” and “scorekeeping”, even if it is totally irrelevant to what they’re doing. PR is a classic example of this.
It’s based on a “top secret” algorithm for which nobody outside Google’s inner circle understands… yet this doesn’t stop people from having a “PR competition”.
I couldn’t agree with you more Gaman; basing your web sites’ income purely on Google (be it PR, AdSense or even the idea of getting acquired by big G itself) is not a solid business plan.
By the way, hope your Internet connection woes will be over soon. Missing your updates, man!
Will try to post more. My connection is improving.
what you’re saying about 2nd round of pr updated are really real. Several sites that had PR5 drop drastically to PR3.
I better do a lot of PP now before my PR gone down
i dont have anything against zeo of unic.com.my .
1 can see tons of text link ads on his site but his PR still at 7.
Sabahan.com is pr3 right now, and if you go to http://sabahan.com without the www it’s pr2. Sorry to see that mate. I just dont understand why google is doing this to the blogs…??
I don’t do pay per post and selling text link ads is not my major income. So don’t worry, I’ll be just fine
While it can be dissapointing to see the drop (but honestly it doesn’t really affect me emotionally at all), I am more concern if the side effect would be a reduction in traffic. Fortunately that’s not the case so far.
Good thing I am doing pay per click marketing hehe.
Yes, it affects my website as well. MKB.com gone down from PR4 to PR2. However, the website still rank top 5 in the Google SERP. That is good because I still can promote climbing packages to the visitors.
Don’t rely too much on “Google God”. But still, it hurts…
that what we should think now….don’t too rely on Google.
no wonder my PR still zero..how could mkb.com drop so much
Heard lots about it, but ma blog got no PR yet
so still no harm at the momement…
Yep, affected me too…..was really a morning shock for me today…
I guess most if not all site have being slapped again…
My PR is still 0, maybe I guess if there is a negative PR maybe Google will give it to me..hahahhaa
I wonder how many rounds this pagerank update will go this year.
What is the worst effect of PR reduction? Less traffic from Google search?
Reduction in payouts for text link ads and paid posts.
To a certain extend it might affect your search engine ranking and site credibility as far as some users are concern.
However, I think the real PR is one that is used internally by Google. The one we see on the toolbar is likely for entertainment purposes only
I have a feeling Google works this way… where the actual page rank is used internally… and the one at toolbar is to create a nuisance out there since we have been determined by our page rank on certain things!
My blog dropped from PR6 to PR4. Most like because I use text-link-ahhh…
They are still just updating the old ones right now.
It’s just a little green bar. I guess it will never end, this whole “Why did Google punish me, I’m a nice guy” thing…
Maybe it’s a Google thing? Maybe it’s a whole new algorithm say..the lower the better?
my website was pr5 but now it is n/a. im not sure why google remove my pr.
pr5 to zero..that is first…this looks bad
Looks like so many people become their punching bag after defeated by Microsoft for facebook.com… lol.
Yes… Google seems to go hairwired… icanhascheezburger.com was down to 3 last week and now pushed back to 7!!!! But some data center still shows 3.. You can check using this here And sabahan is now 3…but dc still show 4… Terrible
4get abt PR la
it is now updated…..hopefully u guys will get the pr back
I think PR3 is just like the PR5 before this update…
Mine increase from PR 0 to PR 3, don’t know why…
You do not sell TLA do you?
Ya i don’t sell TLA because my blog was only PR 0 previously.
Is the TLA that cause the PR to drop?
yes…tla is related to the drop
PR3 is the new PR 5??
That’ll be true if Google demote all PR5 to PR3 across the board but that’s not happening. A fall from PR 5 to PR 3 is a lot
Anyway my new personal blog, thepatzer.com which I started for fun with little content has just been given PR 4. My other blog which I have been filling up with posts for 5 months now is only PR2. Go figure.
looks like there is a 3rd round….most of my site demote 1 PR today…so sad..
My site remain at PR4 unchange. so do I suppose to feel happy, because everybody is dropping.
However my other site which is PPP active was dropping from PR5 to 3.
I think its ‘paid link’ (TLA/PPP) industry will going to change its standard. no more base on google’s PR.
mine is PR3..but i feel ashamed if my blog being compared to other established PR3 blog (like sabahan.com) my blog just too far and nothing compare to them in term of post quality.
i got pr2 since 2 month of blogging. hope it will remains and continues improving.
..and now back to 3 again. Somebody’s been playing with some Google on/off switch..
I got another surprise when I found another new and inactive blog going from PR0 to PR4. Google is kind to me
so far.. my blog is increase from pr3 to pr4
