Someone Is Treatening to Sue Me?

April 28, 2007 by Gaman · 4 Comments

This afternoon I checked my stats and found someone was spending more than an hour on the Malaysia Securities Commission Investor Alert List post.

Then later today I received an email from a lawyer who claimed to represent one of the companies in Malaysia Securities Commission (SC) Alert List.

The lawyer demanded that I remove certain companies from the list immediately or certain action will be taken ‘to compel this to take place’.

You know how legal sentences are worded – I had to read between the lines several times to really understand what it meant.

There is a lot of good information on the Internet warning unsuspecting investors about the dangers of investing in an illegal Internet get rich scheme. However many of these articles are written in English and as we know there are many people who are searching for this info using Bahasa Melayu.

So for the benefit of these searches and as an experiment, I am writing this blog post in Bahasa Melayu. Here we go:

If you are an investor in an Internet investment scheme, you can refer to an alert list from their website to check whether the scheme your are involved with is authorized nor approved under the Malaysian securities laws.

The following list of websites is conducting Internet investment schemes by illegally taking deposit, an offence under Malaysian law. I’ve reproduced the current list for reference, latest list available here.

Is Swiss Mutual Fund & Swiss Cash a Scam?

I was reading the readers’ letters section in our local newspaper recently where a guy wrote in voicing his concern over the authorities’ negative attitude towards the Internet investment schemes that are becoming the latest craze here in Malaysia.

I can’t recall exactly what he wrote but it went something like these schemes offer an opportunity for the low income group to improve their livelihood while participating in the country’s ICT development.. The authorities plans to crackdown these scheme were unwarranted according to him.

I have nothing against improving livelihood through ICT but what concern me was he didn’t realise those schemes got him off on the wrong foot.

Internet Investment Scheme Banned By National Fatwa Council

April 15, 2007 by Gaman · 19 Comments

I came across a shocking headline while reading AFP news recently which says the Malaysia fatwa against Internet trading.

The news reads :

“A Muslim council in Malaysia has issued a religious ruling or fatwa banning people from using the Internet to trade shares or makes investments.”

Regardless of one’s religion, this banning is worrying to those who are working and doing business on the Internet in Malaysia.

I started to imagine how this could seriously hamper the development of e-commerce and the future of doing business via the Internet in Malaysia.

Blogger Discovered LHDN e-Filing Security Vulnerability

April 11, 2007 by Gaman · 7 Comments

You know I’ve always wondered how secure the LHDN e-filing system was. When the publics’ private and confidential info is involved, there’s no excuse for them not to build a robust, scalable and secure system.

With a mantra ‘Mudah Tepat Selamat’ (Easy Accurate Secure) – one would expect they have done rigorous testings to ensure the system lives to its expectation.

Unfortunately, Rickey of WattaHack has written an alarming post regarding a serious security flaw he discovered while filling his tax returns via LHDN e-Filing recently.

Verizon’s network will offer additional redundancy link in case of nature disasters or other mishaps like what had happened during the quake off the coast of Taiwan in December last year.

March 14, 2007 by Gaman · 9 Comments

The Observer, a UK Sunday newspaper has an article up about under 30 UK entrepreneurs who are shaping the future of the web.

You might have never heard most of them except one guy named Alex Tew who hit the jackpot in 2005 with his website Million Dollar Homepage idea.

With the diminishing cost of hardware, the cost of entry is getting cheaper.
All you need is a computer, an Internet connection and an idea. The profit margin is typically higher compare to what a brick and mortar shop is getting.
