Got paid links on your site? Someone might report you to Google.
Google has added a new feature to Webmasters Central Tools which allows you to report paid links that you find on various sites.
It’s unclear whether Google will start penalizing all sites that’s being reported to sell paid links but if they do they might as well penalized all the sites, over 20,000 of them that are listed in Text-Link-Ads.com directory.
On the report paid link form, Google writes
Google Updates Algorithm
June 8, 2007 by Gaman · 6 Comments
People tend to think that Google update their search engine algorithm a few times every few months. However the New York Times article published recently reveals that changes are made more like a few times every week.
The recent algorithm updates have affected one of my sites significantly. I found that I am back on the first page of Google search result page for one single and rather competitive keyword.
I had previously been ranked on page 1 for a couple of years but it dropped to page 2 before being pushed further to page 3.
Google Rankings Behind The Scene
June 7, 2007 by Gaman · 2 Comments
The New York Times has published an interesting article taking you behind the scene into how Google’s search quality team works to improve Google search results quality.
It’s a rather long but well written article which tells us how the team job is ongoing and is never done. They don’t make several changes every few months like some people think but more like a few changes every week.
Another interesting issue the article talks about is QDF or “query deserves freshness” score or value to help fresh pages do well in the search results but yet not over shadow the older pages.
Gmail Increased Max Attachment Size to 20MB
May 28, 2007 by Gaman · 2 Comments
GMail has recently increased their maximum attachment size from 10 MB to 20 MB. However according to GMail Help Center “the precise amount allowable will depend on the attachment.”
I am not sure what that means exactly but I suspect the file type will determine the allowable size for the attachment.
Gmail competitors, Yahoo! Mail and Hotmail both have allowable attachment sizes of up to 10MB.
If you’re looking for a free email service that offers larger attachment size, you might want to check LYCOS Mail. It offers 3GB storage with no limit on the attachment size you can send.
PlentyOfFish.com Now Generates Over $800,000 per Month from AdSense
May 24, 2007 by Gaman · 14 Comments
Remember in March last year I wrote about Markus Frind, the owner of a free dating site PlentyOfFish.com who was making $10,000 per day from AdSense?
When the news broke out, many were skeptical about the validity of his claim and some questioned his motive for revealing his achievement.
Here’s a guy who runs a multi-million dollars operation without the support of massive infrastructure and man power other than himself. It’s hard to believe how this is possible.
Keep Track With What’s Popular With Google Hot Trends
Google has introduced Hot Trends a few days ago. Everybody – at least from the blogs that I subscribe to is talking about it.
Google Hot Trends is kind of like a combination of Google Trends and Zeitgeist.
While Zeitgeist shows what’s popular for a given period of time – weekly, monthly and annually, Hot Trends which replaces it shows the top 100 fastest growing keywords by date. This is interesting because you can find what evens, people or questions that defined a particular day.

You can choose from three types of studies.
- Usability study at a Google office
Typically, you will use a Google product or prototype, and give feedback on it. You could either meet 1-on-1 with a Google researcher, or work as part of a group. Most studies are done at their HQ in Mountain View, California , but they have offices all over the world , so you can sign up for this type of study even if you don’t live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Unfortunately, we don’t have Google office in Malaysia .
Spammer Make Fools of Google?

Over at JohnChow.com someone who wish to remain anonymous has written an interesting article explaining how someone fooled Google to rank number one in Google search result for the term “metal building”.
According to the author, Mark Moore, President of MetalBuidlingDepot.com wanted to be number one for the phrase “metal building” in Google and rank for thousands of other industry terms such as “steel buildings”, “metal garages” etc.
To do this he purchased 6000+ domains and filled them up with identical, duplicate content using exactly the same template. They are then linked to the main domain at MetalBuidlingDepot.com.
Google Rolls Out New Design

Google has been constantly testing new user interface that are presented to selected group of searchers at random. I don’t usually pay attention to the news about such changes until I noticed a significant changes myself when I did a search this morning.
I am sure I am not the only one who is seeing this. I notice today Google’s has made some changes to their home page and search result pages design.
On their homepage you can see the navigation links moved from just above the Google search box to the top left-hand side of the page.
