Do You Give Your Real Email When Leaving a Comment In a Blog?

Last modified on 6th September, 2007

I usually do. But sometimes I wondered if such ‘openness’ could be abused by certain blog owners who may harvest commentators’ emails and sell them to spammers.

Thankfully that hasn’t happened yet. The email that I am using is still relatively spam free. May be both my server’s Spam Assassin and Outlook junk e-mail filter have been doing a good job shielding me from the wrath of those spam devils.

How about you? Do you trust blog owners by giving your real email when leaving a comment?

No I don’t leave my real email but depending on which site …

  • I usually on give away my email address (for plain viewing) when I either trust the website/blog or they have a clear No Spamming policy.

Alternately if you do not want to release your email at all, there’s always those throw-away email accounts you can sign up for.

With the paid version I don’ t get the heavy orange branding Mike speaks of, but I’ ve always wanted more in relation to the frequency. I want a console that allows me to do scheduling. More importantly, I want to check off which articles to include in the mailout. Email fatigue sets in quickly and blasting off every single post is a sure fire way to keep your churn rate high. The other question…
