The Z List Meme
Posted on 10th February, 2007
Admittedly, I’ve always been skeptical in any kind of deliberate or viral linking meme in the blogosphere.
While it may benefit my blog in many ways such as the chance to get new back links and traffic, higher Technorati ranking and more, there’s a danger that it’ll dilute my blog’s niche focus because of the untargeted links to the other vastly diverse and sometimes unrelated niches from the search engine point of view.
If I want to rank higher for a certain keyword phrase, I could have abused the system by using the phrase as an anchor text in the link that appears in the linking scheme. This is liken to abusing the system using the previously popular but already defused Googlebombs.
Then again I don’t think Google will go out and start penalizing these blogs any time soon just for posting a single post like this in their blog.
For my readers though, apart from having the chance to discover new blogs, I don’t see any real benefit it will bring to them.
Besides, newer blogs would probably benefit the most from this than established ones and at the moment Sabahan.com is still working its way up the ladder.
Anyway, recently I was tagged by Lillian who listed me in her Z-List.
The Z list is basically a term coined to contrast the meaning of “the A list” which describes a list of elite or well known blogs.
The Z list highlights the sharing of blogs that are not widely read or known in the blogosphere. Apparently most of the blogs on the original list were marketing or business blogs so I think my participation in the list won’t do much harm.
I also start seeing new linkbacks to Sabahan.com for the past few days which is good, so despite my little reservations above, I’ve decided to participate in the Z list to return the favour and thank Lillian for tagging me.
The premise is simple: Copy and paste the entire list below into a new post in your blog. Remove your own link if you’re on there, and feel free to add any blogs you want to the top. Include a link to the blog where you got the list from, publish it and that’s it. Bloggers will notice this link and hopefully join in, linking back to you & giving out more links to others on the list:
- Create a new post on your blog.
- Copy and Paste the entire list of blog links below
- Add any blogs that you want to include near the top of the list.
- (Optional) Include the blog where you first got the list from, on the list in your post. (I think this should not be optional :). It’s always polite to link back)
- Do not include your own blog links on the list in your post.
- Make sure that all links are copied intact. Publish the Post.
Note that you can join the Z List meme even though your blog haven’t been tagged. Just copy and paste the list below and add Sabahan.com and any other blogs you want to share on the list and publish it in your blog.
