Upgrade WordPress Automatically Using InstantUpgrade Plugin
Posted on 16th March, 2007
Upgrading WordPress can be a pain and even more so if you are managing several blogs at once.
So someone called Zirona created a WordPress plugin called InstantUpgrade to make upgrading your WordPress installation manually obsolete.
Zirona claims that the plugin enables WordPress owners to upgrade their WordPress to the latest version automatically with a single click.
No more downloading, unpacking, deleting old files etc.
From the site:
The InstantUpgrade plugin downloads the latest WordPress version from the WordPress server and unpacks it at your server. In the next step, it deletes all of your old WordPress files (except wp-content/ and wp-config.php, language packs are preserved, too) and puts the new files into your WordPress directory. At last, it runs the upgrade script contained it the new WordPress version.
That sounds good and all but I am still skeptical as to how secure this plugin is and whether it will be kind enough not to break existing plugins functionalities. Then again, a manual upgrade could potentially break your plugins functionalities anyway.
I wonder why it isn’t intergraded in the WordPress core already if it’s really useful and secure.
Have you tried it?[via BloggingPro.com]
