Your AdSense Ad Targeting Questions Answered

Besides traffic, the AdSense placement and its appearance are among the major factors that’ll determine how much money you’ll make from AdSense.
Unfortunately, most people fail to consider another important factor when it comes to optimizing their ads and that is to make them as relevant as possible to the content.
I’ve seen this on several of my sites, where the CTRs could climp up to 100% or more on the days when most relevant ads appeared at those sites. So one way you can increase your AdSense income without getting any more traffic is to target your ads so that only the most relevant ones are displayed.
The Inside AdSense team has written a question and answer post about ad targeting which includes section and topics targeting. I particular like these two tips:
you might want to place Google ads on checkout pages or sales confirmation pages to provide your customers another action to take when they’ve completed shopping. If you’re an AdWords advertiser, you can place ads on the pages where you normally place your conversion tracking code.

You can also use a web analytics tool to figure out from which pages your visitors exit your site. If you’re losing traffic without sales on a few specific pages where your users aren’t finding what they’re looking for, AdSense might provide a good ‘next step’ to help you monetize this traffic without compromising your business objectives.
However, this does not usually apply to a blog since most people have AdSense displayed on every page.
