4 Mbps Broadband Will Be Available To TM Customers Soon

Posted on 20th March, 2007

Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) is partnering with US-based Verizon Business to offer cheaper, faster and more reliable broadband package soon.

Verizon’s network will offer additional redundancy link in case of nature disasters or other mishaps like what had happened during the quake off the coast of Taiwan in December last year.

Unfortunately no figures were disclosed as to how these translate into the exact package their will offer. However, TM CEO, Datuk Abdul Wahid Omar revealed that TM will offer a 4 Mbps broadband package soon.

I hope this package will be made available to consumers at a reasonable price. If it’s not, a free upgrade to 2 Mbps for the existing 1 Mbps (and 512Kbps to 1 Mbps) subscribers would be good for us.

The new infrastructure is expected to be ready in June.

A good news but with TM……
Some more, as what other commentar mention, copper lines can support 4Mbps line?

  • Yup! I’m also have a doubt where there can implement 4Mbps to a copper line. They said they using US tech, but is US they already hane a good infra.Unless TM wanna change all copper to fiber optic or at least ‘cable network’.

  • I don’t think Malaysian infra will support 4Mbps speed.
In US they have a good networking infra in their most residential area, but Malaysian using old-wired telephone infra to carried broadband speed.Unless TM made re-engineering to all infa and change to fiber optic or at least a cable network.

sure or not tm can support this. 😀

I think that’s still several times slower than another Asian country’s broadband speed.

They always say “cheaper” but until the pricing is out, I am not keeping my hopes high.

Well, sounds good. Or maybe they should improve their current situation first. My home DSL is down again as usual
