Blogging Is a Real Job – At Least in Canada

Posted on 13th December, 2006

Canada is probably the first country in the world that recognizes blogging as a real job.

Here in Malaysia , just imagine the blank stare you’ll get when you tell someone you are a blogger. Even most of the local bloggers do not consider blogging as a career option. I don’t blame them.

Yes it’s possible to make a living from the Internet, many Malaysian I believe is already doing it. But it’s hard to find someone who is making a living from blogging alone.

Anyway, I find recent news that a New Brunswick court has ruled that Blogging is a real career in Canada .

a New Brunswick court has recognized blogging as an occupation in a case involving an arrest for obstructing a police officer. The decision, R. v. LeBlanc , involved an arrest for obstructing a police officer.

The person charged is a well-known blogger who was covering a political demonstration for his blog.

The judge acquitted the man, concluding that there was reasonable doubt that there was willful obstruction.

More interesting are the judge’s comments regarding blogging.

In particular, the judge notes that that the blogger was "simply plying his trade, photographing a demonstration for inclusion in his blog when he was arrested."

If you are having trouble with the police, I doubt this trick will work in our court of law LOL

Have you ever considered making blogging as a way to make a living? I know some Malaysian is already doing it.

    Yup gaman,

Even my neighbourhood also still zero and they never heard of word “BLOG” before. It’s a wasted to tell about it. In fact, most of Malaysian (old people) still doesn’t know what the Internet. They just heard about it but if we ask them, they will say: aaaa… it’s internet lah…. the thing that you can chit chat with strangers and see the porn together! that’s all. Even the police also don’t know about blogging.

And now, we want to tell them about Blogging Is a Real Job? Believe it or not, since the blogger just sit in front of the computer, they will assume you as a jobless ….(stay at home everyday).

I have. I think we have to be open to any opportunities that come our way. If John Lee & Ramona Ali can do it with translation, why not with blogging? Bad comparison, I know, but hope you get my drift.
