GDrive – Infinite online storage from Google?

Posted on 8th March, 2006

Google ambition to organize the world’s information may literally become reality someday in the future. A rumored GDrive, an online storage service gained attention again recently when a blogger discovered notes in a slide presentation by Google executives published on Google’s site.

From the article

Google Inc. is preparing to offer online storage to Web users, creating a mirror image of data stored on consumer hard drives, according to company documents that were mistakenly released on the Web.

The original notes state

“With infinite storage, we can house all user files, including emails, web history, pictures, bookmarks, etc and make it accessible from anywhere (any device, any platform, etc),”

Somehow I am not too surprise if such service was made available in the future. It seems like a natural progression in the information technology revolution.

But what concerns me is the potential danger of putting everyone data in one place. This treasure trove of personal data can fall prey to government surveillance or other interested parties.
