Google Rolls Out New Design

Posted on 17th May, 2007

Google has been constantly testing new user interface that are presented to selected group of searchers at random. I don’t usually pay attention to the news about such changes until I noticed a significant changes myself when I did a search this morning.

I am sure I am not the only one who is seeing this. I notice today Google’s has made some changes to their home page and search result pages design.

On their homepage you can see the navigation links moved from just above the Google search box to the top left-hand side of the page.

This new designed is also integrated into the search result pages and on various Google properties.

Then I headed to SearchEngineLand.com, sure enough this is the final interface design which has been rolled today.

Marissa Mayer, vice president of search products and user experience, said me the navigation bar is also “property dependent” and will change depending on its “nearest neighbors.” For example, the bar above knows you are on a search property, so search neighbors get listed. In contrast, consider this bar for when you are in Gmail.

Update:
If you are really into this, you can participate in Google new service called Google Experimental. Google is always experimenting with new features. As a participant, you’ll be able to test them firsthand and tell Google want you think.
