How Malaysian Bloggers Make Money

Posted on 7th June, 2007

The Star Online has published an interesting article about blogging and how Malaysian bloggers are making money from it via online advertising.

The story starts with some discussion about two local blog advertising companies Nuffnang.com.my and Advertlets.com.

These companies seem to be gaining ground among the local bloggers and are worth checking out if you are trying to monetize your blog and don’t mind placing permanent image ads in there.

Several well-known bloggers are also featured in the article. This includes Gareth Davies, who blogs at ShaolinTiger.com, Lillian Chan who owns 5xmom.com and JeffOoi.com.

The article gives a general overview on how Malaysian bloggers are using online advertising to generate income from their blogs.

We still have a long way to go before we could narrow the gap between our country and the developed nations such as the UK and US as far as online advertising is concern. But we are heading in the right direction.

If you are wondering how much you could make from blogging in Malaysia, the article should give you some hints on what’s possible.

ehm, if we only depend from 1 method, i guess its hard to make money online. But i know all of us can make more money if we know how to do that. This is another good blog which can tell us about that.

If I’ve not been blogging long enough, I’d have believed what was reported in the article, especially on the figures of daily visitors part.

    • Gaman says:

What you do is more important than the length of time. Unless you are a pro blogger in the correct niche, it’s not easy to achieve such results.

  • Wahlau.NET says:

wow…that is great news for those who is featured in the newspaper…more traffic.

Also, more blogger will come into the picture very soon

    • hongkiat says:

No really thought. Shaolin tiger’s 900 unique/day did not gain much after the news went out in In Tech. My guess is, newspaper is still paper. If its web hyperlink, he should get some traffic.

  • drizad says:

I think both of them have given us the opportunity to reduce the hassle of getting paid in foreign currency.

And, I tend to agree with Hongkiat that most of the journalist don’t know about blogging…

  • hongkiat says:

I guess this article was first published in In-Tech before it was online. Read it 2 weeks ago I think. Here’s another local magazine that writes about Advertlets and Nuffnang – Surf. Not bad too.

I personally find the article is brief. Perhaps journalist don’t know bloggers as much as we bloggers ourselves ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Gaman says:

Perhaps it’s a good intro for those who are just starting to taste the water ๐Ÿ™‚

I wonder if thestar has something like NST has (monsterblogger). In there it can discuss this at length with its readers. They can even make their news articles like yahoo last time – enable comments. I might be wrong, but it seems that NST is intertwined with monsterblogger. In the mamakspecial case, the “official” version at NST proper is very prim n proper, but in monsterblogger it was very very detailed.
