Pay per lead affiliate programs that have made me money

Last modified on 12th July, 2007

I first got involved with affiliate marketing in 1998 when I created my first hobby website, AbsolutelyFreebies.com. Today, the website continues to generate income for me month after month. Besides that website, I’ve several other websites where I promote affiliate programs exclusively.

There are four main types of affiliate programs which I have been involved with

  • Pay per Sale
  • Pay per Lead
  • Pay per Action
  • Pay per Click

Pay per Click programs were quite popular before Adsense arrived at the scene but many advertisers are moving away from this payout model due to the click fraud problem. But this didn’t deter Google Adsense and the Yahoo Publisher Network from using and even thriving under the pay per Click model with the help of their fraud click detection technology to combat the problem.

In this article though, I’d like to discuss about the advantages of pay per lead program and perhaps share some of the programs that have made me money.

Pay per lead merchants are some of the most desirable merchants to promote. The conversion rate for pay per lead programs can be better than pay per sale because the visitor isn’t buying anything. They simply need to complete an online form for you to get paid.

The disadvantage of pay per lead programs are the commission can be less than pay per sale programs. Besides, it is also not always easy to send qualified leads from your website especially when a merchant expect US leads but your website caters to non-US visitors.

I don’t make as much as some larger affiliates who are making thousands per day but I think the amount is ok considering most of it is generated in an auto pilot mode.

I’ve made money from these programs.

ValueClick Media’s Lead Generation (previously Websponsors.com)

ValueClick offers ads from several different merchants divided into several categories ranging from free sweepstakes, beauty product samples to personal finance.

The online reporting allows you to view your campaigns performance in detail by date or campaigns.

As far as I can recall, payments (by checks) have arrived mostly on time. Hopefully this will stay that way under the ValueClick leadership.

On average, I made about USD400 a month from this program.

MaxBounty is very similar to ValueClick Media Lead in terms of type of campaigns on offer. However, it has fewer merchants under its belt as compare to ValueClick and thus fewer campaigns to choose from.

One advantage it has over ValueClick is for a given campaign that is available in both programs, MaxBounty generally offers a higher payout.

The reporting capability is not as extensive as that of ValueClick but it’s good enough to give you an idea about your performance at any date range.

My main gripe about this program is that it automatically converts my payment into local currency and there’s no way to avoid this. At first this could mean my checks will only take two or three days to clear since they are already in RM, which is good.

However, I rather receive check in USD and wait thirty days for it to clear. This is because the local checks issued by MaxBounty uses a low exchange rate, at about RM3.2 to a dollar. My bank can give me a much better rate than that.

Anyway, my average monthly income from MaxBounty is USD400.

Commission Junction

CJ is one of the largest affiliate networks out there. It has a large number of merchants under one roof from many different categories.

When it comes to making money, CJ offers all of the affiliate marketing models and is not limited to pay per lead only. The highest paying pay per lead merchants can usually be found here.

I am aware that CJ has stopped accepting applicants from Malaysia but if by any chance they were to reopen the program to include Malaysian in the future, I’d suggest you to join this at once.

I’ve been a member of CJ before the new policy took effect, lucky me I guess. In a month, I make about USD900 from this program.

There are several other pay per lead programs that I am a member with such as Cyberbounty and Linkshare but I didn’t promote them as much as those three.

Well, not too many but as I said it’s easier to make money from affiliate program for a non blog site than a blog.

Visitors come from organic search engines mostly.

I am a member of shareasale

  • What sort of traffic is needed to achieve your USD400 a month with ValueClick and CJ?

One affiliate program that I joined is Shareasale. There’s an affiliate called GoClick.com, a pay per click company. For each visitor that you send to their site that signs up on a US10 account, you can get a commission of US25. See a post I wrote on it – How to get US15 in commission plus traffic to your website

I haven’t joined Scott Boukch’s program and has no intention of joining it yet. If it has a money back guarantee, you could give it a try to see if it’s really that good.

  • Zulkef says:

Thanks for the info. Scott Boulch’s program ask for 1K USD upfront and 300 USD monthly. I wonder if the software is really that good in finding the profit pathway as he declares.

Sabahan, do u join scott’s click flipping. I want to join at first but it’s very expensive and ‘m just starting out. Furthermore I’m afraid that Malaysian are not accepted in some of the CPA networks.

This article from you give some CPA I can start. Thanks again.

  • […] Anyway, if you are interested, I’ve written about some of the CPA or pay per lead programs that are making me money here. I tried applying for Azoogle, one of the CPA programs that Scott uses a lot, but it seemed that they didn’t accept application from Malaysia at that time. […]
