Super Fast One Hour or Less Google Indexing

Posted on 5th October, 2007

After I published my previous post, I noticed from my user’s online page Googlebot came munching the content almost immediately.

If you Google the term “latest google pagerank update Sabahan” you will notice that the post appears first on the list, but that’s besides my point.

When I did the search at 9:30PM, I noticed the post was indexed 7 hours ago as shown in the screenshot below. That’s about an hour after I published the post at 1:30PM. It appears that now it takes Google about an hour or less to index my post.

While I’m not certain whether a blog’s PageRank and update frequency have any influence over the Google indexing speed, I tend to think they do and this shouldn’t be confined to blogs alone. Can you imagine the potential traffic you could drive to you blog if you are the first to break an important story?

Have you experienced the same effect in your blog? If you haven’t, I suggest you create a sitemap for your blog and see what happens.

I got indexed by Google for one of my article in less than 2 minutes.

Yes, I think posting a real “break news” would help to get index by Google fast … my fastest record is within 4 hours in my old site. Probably will try to post on the “breaking news” and see how fast being indexed by google.

I tried once with jaiku setting up and account and it got listed almost immediately. I did not try the search but I used “site:username.jaiku.com”

  • The speed of google indexing the websites has grown a lot. I once started a website, and it was indexed 100% of the pages that I submited in less than 24 hours since the moment I’ve started!

well gaman, no doubt the sitemap help very much, the other day i used a theme that has no sitemaps and all bots stop crawling my content but now, after switching to a new theme

i can see googlebot visit my blog like more than 5-8 times a day..

Yes I have. I posted an article on PC Fair and searched Google for “Pikom Disaster” a couple of hours later and found it on the first page of Google. That entry has since dropped from the 1st position but it’s still on the first page.

I guess Google indexes some blogs pretty quickly nowadays. Mine was only a PR4 blog.

Somehow I don’t know why my posts are being crawled really late. I do have google sitemap…

I tried searching for a post that’s posted 24 hours ago and it’s not even in Google.

Any idea what’s the problem Gaman?

    • Gaman says:

You might want to check your blog’s crawl stats at webmaster central to see if googlebot is having problem accessing your sitemap. You can also find the time when it crawls your site.

In addition, try using a unique phrase that appears in your post to zero in your search.

another thing I forgot to mention that I have noticed on the Google crawls is, that they only crawl your site when you blog really frequently like 2 or 3 posts a day, less than that I have noticed the crawl is not that quick. that’s only my observation, has anyone notice that too?

    • Gaman says:

I noticed that most of my lower PageRank blogs do not enjoy speedy indexing even though they are updated more frequently than Sabahan.com. So it goes to show that your PageRank matters when it comes to how fast Googlebot is going to index your blog.

  • Nelson says:

I agree with these two guys too, since my site has been up I found out my pages were being crawled really quick, not with a good ranking though, but if did a exact search of the post title I was able to find it on the first google page. is kind of dynamic too, sometimes it shows up and some times it doesn’t.

I thought it was a normal feature from Google, but since Darren at problogger blogged about it the other day a lot of people are blogging after that.

    • Gaman says:

I was first aware of this fresh indexing from Google’s Matt Cutt post here.

New posts would likely have fewer or zero link pointing to them and thus the bad ranking. But if you are the first to break the news, I think you would be the first on the SERP regardless.

  • Azmeen says:

No surprise for me, in fact this isn’t a new “feature”. It’s been live for at least 3 months.

I first noticed it when I posted about Pak Lah’s wedding announcement. Received more than 1500+ hits from Google search traffic within the next 1.5 hours.

The same effect happened when I posted about the police confirming that DNA tests show that the “girl in bag” is indeed Nurin Jazlin. 1000+ Google traffic within two hours.

My blog was definitely among the first to break the news about these two topics when it happened.

Actually, if you notice, Google Blog Search results have been supplementing most search queries now.

It’s just a matter of being among the first to highlight popular search terms.

    • Gaman says:

I agree that this is not a new feature. Actually I’ve mentioned this before but it has become more widespread lately.

BTW, searches using Google blog search always returns the latest post too.
