The results of my BlogAds experiment

I purchased two ads at LiewCF.com and Kahsoon.com and paid $20 and $50 respectively for a week of exposure on their adstrips. The price was reasonable enough considering each of these blogs is getting an average of 4K and 15K daily visitors respectively (and even higher in page impressions).
The final click thru rates are 0.082% for LiewCF.com and 2.241% for Kahsoon.com. Such a big different and one of them is quite disappointing. But I think I know what causing the low CTR which I’ll write more about this in my next post.
Anyway, someone commented my earlier post and brought up a good point about the ability for new blogs to convert traffic to repeat visitors from these campaigns. Surely, the content, or rather the lack of it, won’t be enough to entice the traffic to convert to repeat visitors right?
Well, before I started these campaigns, I made sure to have at least 100 posts in my blogs.
In general, blog readers do not actually go digging the blog archive to read every single post out there. They only read those that they find interesting. You can tell how interested your visitors are in your blog by checking your average page view stats. Anything above 2 should be good, of course the higher the better.
Sabahan.com gets an average of 2.3 page view per visit while OffbeatEnough.com gets a good 3.4. So it’s evident that a blog age isn’t a factor when deciding to start off a campaign as long as one has a blog that his/her visitors find interesting and/or useful.
So does this experiment pays off? Before I answer this question, we need to understand the purpose of the ad purchases.
My primary purpose for trying this promotion method is to learn about its effectiveness in bringing good quality traffic. I think experience gained from this is the most valuable pay off regardless of how much money I’ve made or traffic I’ve gained.
I could’ve failed miserably but still that’s a lesson learnt. If this promotion method prove widely successful, I’d have found a surefire way to get good traffic. You just never know until you give it a try.
Anyway, I was interested to learn how well the traffic convert to subscribers but this is not an easy metric to quantify. The Feedburner count may provide some clue but those that come back by typing my URLs directly into their browser’s address bar cannot be tracked accurately.
What I know for sure is my Feedburner counts have increased a bit (not for Sabahan.com though). After these campaigns ended, I notice my daily visitor counts for both blogs have been higher as compare to those before the start of these campaigns. If nothing else, this experiment has given my blogs a good start right off the bat.
Has this increased my Adsense income too? Yes it has and interestingly, one of the ads has actually paid itself off! But not by a large margin. Even the, it’s still like someone is paying you to send traffic to your blog. Now, nobody can argue with that!
Although, the other ad has made no difference in my Adsense income.
This experiment has cost me US70, nothing compares to other experiments by big name marketers but I hope you’ll still find this post beneficial.
If you decide to advertise on these blogs, your results may vary from mine. As Blogads writes, some advertisers get 5% clickthrus, some get 0.01% on the same blog. The key thing is to keep your ad fresh.
