View the Top Anchor Text Phrases Used When People Link to Your Site

Posted on 19th March, 2007

Finally Google has added the ability to view the anchor text phrases used when people link to your site or blog.

If you don’t know what anchor text is, it’s the text that you click on to follow a hyperlink to another web page or another site. Like this: Anchor Text.

To view this info, head over to Google Webmaster Tools. Once you are logged in, click Statistics > Page analysis.

The text is normalized meaning they remove special characters, capitalization and punctuation. Currently, you can only see the top 100 items.

This information is useful because it allows you to know how others describe your site in their anchor text. Also, anchor text is one of the most important elements used by Google to rank your site in the search results.

Here’s the top 16 phrases people used to link to Sabahan.com. Not surprising to see that I am number one in Google search result for the keyword “sabahan“.
